Technology Overview of Probe Person Survey

Survey / Data Collection

 After activating the Probe Person Survey application installed on the GPS mobile phone, the user will input his/her travel behavior as "Departure", "Transport Mode Change", or "Arrival". While the application is activated, GPS positioning function of the mobile phone takes place at intervals of seconds (one second or longer intervals).
 The trip information acquired through the user's operation and GPS collected data such as travel paths will be transmitted and stored in real-time in the database, and then automatically converted into the Web Diary.
 The user will check the trips for the day by confirming and/or editing the Web Diary as needed.

Data Storage

 The collected data will be cleaned and compressed before stored.
 By comprehensively using various data acquired through the GPS mobile phone, errors in large amount of position data will be cleaned.
 To further increase the accuracy of the trip data, auto-travel-detecting procedure is performed to cover forgotten inputs by users.

Data Analysis

 Stored data will be highly and promptly analyzed using a variety of tools, and the results of analysis are displayed visually in various forms as tables, charts and maps.

Providing Information

 The hybrid use of both the analyzed and present real-time data for spatial data mining has enabled traffic forecasting in response to the location of the specific user and the time of the day, and subsequently individual delivery of information.
